Based on the potential profits alone, it seems like a good possibility that Skyrim’s DLC will follow that path, although that is just supposition.īut any DLCs are still a long way off, and will likely be released months after The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 11. Skyrim‘s latest DLC, Hearthfire, launches on Xbox 360 today, and it seems to pack a lot into a tiny download. While Skyrim might receive a similar expansion, Bethesda has seen a huge amount of success (and profit) with multiple downloads for the Fallout games. The last tile in the series, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, released the massive Shivering Isles expansion a year after the initial release, which added a sizable new area and story to the game. While Bethesda has yet to announce any specifics in regards to Skyrim expansions-which isn’t surprising since the game isn’t even due out until November-you can count on there being some impressive content for the game if the franchise’s history is any indication. And according to a recent press release, Bethesda has reached an agreement with Microsoft similar to that of the Call of Duty games, and all upcoming DLC for The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim will be an Xbox 360 exclusive for at least 30 days. While in the grand scheme of things that may not seem like a huge deal, for gamers hungry for new content, especially when it comes to the billion dollar juggernaut that is Activision’s FPS, it is an important advantage in the war between gaming systems. The biggest game franchise in the world right now, Call of Duty, has an agreement in place with Microsoft that gives it the exclusive rights to any new DLC for at least 30 days.

Sure, there are franchises like Fable, Halo and Gears of War that are exclusive to the Xbox, but PC has dozens of PC-only titles, and the PS3 has an impressive selection of exclusive franchises like Metal Gear Solid, God of War and Uncharted to name just a few.īut one area where Microsoft has been trying to even things up is with downloadable content exclusives. One of the biggest and most common criticisms leveled at the Xbox 360 is that it lacks the impressive selection of exclusives that its rivals have.

It would be a shame if the PS3 missed out on these two Skyrim DLC packs, but some argue that cancelling them outright would be preferable to releasing them full of bugs. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, a remastered version of the game, was released for Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in October 2016. This, obviously, has some PS3 players up in arms while Bethesda works with Sony to try to come up with a solution. If that happens, then Dawnguard may not see a release on PS3, and since Bethesda seems to be expecting the same problems with the PS3 version of Hearthfire, it stands to reason that the home-building DLC might not either.
Bethesda is currently struggling with the PS3 release of Dawnguard, Skyrim‘s first DLC, telling us last week that it may not be able to fix the problems its facing.
While PC players can probably expect this DLC to land in about a month – give or take a week or two – PS3 players may never see it. Hearthfire was announced only last week, making the lead up to this DLC pleasantly short. These features first made an appearance in the Skyrim Game Jam video Todd Howard showed off at DICE 2012, and at the time Howard said that some of the Game Jam content could make it into the actual game as DLC. These range from enchanter’s towers and stables to greenhouses and an armory, and once the house is finished, players will be tasked with defending it from the beasts of Skyrim. After buying up a plot of land and gathering the raw materials needed to build a house, players get to choose from a variety of rooms for their home.
